Transport Sharing Scheme

Do you find it hard to get to the Centre?

MSTC Lothian is running a pilot scheme
to put you in touch with other members to share lifts and taxis

How does it work?

  1. Are you a member? Only members of the Centre may take part.
  2. If so, fill in the form below and post it to the Centre.
  3. A match will be made with a scheme member in your area as soon as possible, but this may take a little while.
  4. If a match is made, both parties will be contacted.
  5. A meeting will be arranged in the Centre to:
    • • Introduce both parties
    • • Discuss the details, and check ID and other relevant documents
    • • If one person is providing a lift to the other person, the Centre will assist in calculating a fair contribution to the cost of the journey
  6. Once these have been completed satisfactorily, you can start sharing lifts together

Terms and Conditions

  1. Only members of the Centre may take part.
  2. Matches are made based only on the information supplied on the form.

The initial meeting:

  1. You are requested to attend the introductory meetings arranged at the Centre.
  2. MSTC Lothian is taking all appropriate steps to ensure the safety of all participants. You are requested to show ID at the first meeting. For all car drivers, this must include a driving licence.

Once a match has been made:

  1. If you are a passenger in someone’s car, you are advised to cover half the cost of the journey. The Centre can help calculate an appropriate amount. Note that if you are the owner of the car, you must not profit from the journey as this can invalidate your insurance and tax.
  2. Car drivers offering lifts will not be expected to provide manual assistance to the passenger. If you require assistance, please ensure there is someone to assist you at the pick-up point. Assistance may be available from staff in the Centre on arrival.
  3. For wheelchair users: during the pilot phase, it will only be possible to match you to shared taxi journeys, due to potential insurance restrictions on cars.
  4. You are advised to inform a family member of who you will be travelling with, and where/when you will be going.
  5. You must make every effort to honour any arrangements made, and to notify your sharer as soon as possible if your circumstances change.
  6. However, if you have any doubts do not travel.

Responsibility / Health and safety:

  1. Apart from facilitating the initial introductory meeting, MSTC Lothian will not be able to assist with arrangements, or take any responsibility for the actions of participants once an arrangement has been made.
  2. MSTC Lothian does not carry out a separate check on ID, driving licenses, insurance, vehicle registration or any other vehicle-related aspects; however we expect drivers to have all legal requirements in place and to be able to demonstrate this if requested.

  3. To make a complaint please contact the Centre Manager, who will assist where appropriate.
  4. MSTC Lothian reserves the right to bar people from the scheme, and to cancel the scheme if it is abused.

Pilot Scheme

This is a new scheme which is being run on a trial basis until April 2012. Please be patient, as it may take a while to make suitable matches!

All feedback is welcome to help us to assess whether it is successful.
